A cosmopolitan, Cultural island, once inhabited by revolutionaries and favoured by jetsetters. Hydra’s long naval history is apparent at every point of the harbour. Cannons still target the Aegean Sea, busts of admirals abound, and captains’ homes line the port. Hydra has always been a favoured retreat of Celebrities: Aristotle Onassis, Maria Callas, Rex Harrison, Peter Ustinov, Leonard Cohen, Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones, Picasso, Chagall, and Miller have all regularly frequented the island .

MIAOULIA FESTIVAL
Dedicated to Hydra’s more colourful Greek Patriot, Admiral Andreas Miaoulis. A week of events including exhibitions, lectures, musical events, theatrical performances, games, folk dances, torch, boating,sports games and a massive firework display, culminating in a re-enactment of the sinking of the Ottoman Empire flag ship in the gulf just outside Hydra Harbour. The festival is set every year on the 4th weekend of June and lasts one week.
